Dr Verghese Kurien, founder of AMUL, is one of the most popular social entrepreneurs in India. He died in 2012. Social entrepreneurs are those businessmen who strive to solve a societal issue with the application of their idea/initiative/solution. They wish to bring positive changes to a society or a community while also finding a foothold for themselves in the market. Their primary aim is to help the society and then generate profits. Their business is called a social venture which has sustainable objectives. Bringing in change in a society is a tedious, long task, which comes along various financial and emotional risks. Social entrepreneurs have a knack to find solutions to these roadblocks.

Social entrepreneurs drive social innovation and transformation in various fields including education, health, environment and enterprise development. A social entrepreneur, similar to a business entrepreneur, builds strong and sustainable organizations, which are either set up as not-for-profits or companies. These individuals are willing to take on the risk and effort to create positive changes in society through their initiatives.
They can contribute to the well being of a nation in several ways that improve the living conditions of the people by: Acting boldly without being limited by resources currently in hand: as they don’t back down when they meet an obstacle, they work with what they have access to while looking for new ways to expand.
Engaging in the process of continuous innovation, adaptation, and learning: Innovation is what drives entrepreneurs as they always have to adapt with the market’s needs.social entrepreneurship is raising in popularity and gaining more importance, and we need social entrepreneurs to help us find new avenues toward social improvement as we enter the next century.
