The first thing that you must know about salary negotiation is never discuss it in the first round and also, don’t wait until the last round. The mid rounds in which you are often called to meet various department heads are the best time to ask the offered salary and also state your expected salary. While negotiating, make sure you sound genuinely confident about the job role at the hand and how you are the best candidate for the role. Secondly, try not to your discuss your last/current salary as this sets the bar for you and the hiring manager may end up giving you just a hike of say 20 per cent when their budget and your skill set could have gotten you a raise of 50 per cent. When asked about the salary, tell them, “I am looking for an opportunity that pays me fairly keeping in mind my skills and past experience.” When asked about your expectations, you research on the job role might help you quote a fair amount. Always tell them that you are flexible to negotiate you’re the salary.
