A solution to this challenge and to enhance network safety is Ethical Hacking.

What is Ethical Hacking?

Ethical Hacking is basically a form of hacking that is used for good reasons. Ethical hackers work similar to any other hacker but with the purpose of spotting loopholes in the security system in order to create better systems to prevent breach. Owing to the growing need of ethical hackers, this field is now emerging as a promising career option. A lot of government organizations are recruiting ethical hackers in their respective IT teams. According to a survey conducted all over India, the job opportunities for ethical hackers is expected to grow over 77 thousand. Let us have a look at the prospects of a government job for ethical hackers in India.

Government Jobs for Ethical Hackers

The government jobs for ethical hackers in different organizations basically require the hacker to make use of hacking tools, tactics and techniques to breach the existing security protocols by finding small loopholes, assessing the security of these networks/ website/ application and to execute the measures that can prevent such unwanted intrusions. They test and develop security systems. Jobs as Network Security Administrator, Chief Information Security Officer, Application Security Tester, Chief Application Security Officer, etc. offer exciting prospects. They can work in Defense organizations, law enforcement organizations, forensic organizations, detective companies, investigative organizations, etc.

The job opportunities are immense and good remuneration only enhances the desirability of the job.The salaries of ethical hackers tend to be nearly 20 to 30% more than the salaries earned by professional in other positions at the same level in other IT fields. A beginner in the field of ethical hacking may get a salary package of about INR 3 to 6 Lacs per annum with a government organization. However, the pay can rise substantially with better academic qualification, certifications and work experience. Some ethical hackers tend to earn INR 30 Lacs per annum. The primary hubs for these jobs include Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai.

Qualification Required to become an Ethical Hacker

To avail a government job as an ethical hacker in India, you need to have certain academic credentials. The potential candidate must have a graduate or post graduate degree in Information Technology or Computer Science and allied fields. Diploma or a credited course in Ethical hacking is a plus. The candidate must be certified as an Ethical Hacker from a reputed institution for better job prospects. Some of these certifications include:Certified Hacking Forensic Investigator (EC-Council), Certified Ethical Hacker (EC-Council), GIAC Certified Penetration Tester (GPEN) by SAN and GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA). Special training in the field and experience adds to the resume of the candidate.

Skills Required to become an Ethical Hacker

As an Ethical Hacker, you are required to have special skill set. These include excellent technical knowledge of various hacking techniques, ability to implement the tools for hacking, good knowledge about different Operating Systems and Networking. They must be well equipped with Programming. An Ethical Hacker need to keep him/herself constantly updates with new knowledge. They must pursue consistent growth. To be a great Ethical Hacker, the candidate must have investigative nature, an eye for detail, analytical thinking, problem solving skills, passion to face challenges, etc. Trustworthiness, honesty and integrity as some of the highest essentials for the candidates in the field of Ethical Hacking.

      Degree doesn’t matter, you need to have good hacking skills, they will judge you based on that.

    Is it possible to get job by only having Diploma in certain programming languages, operating systems and CEH? I mean without getting a B.Tech?

      Yes, if you have good coding skills then B.Tech is not necessary. You need to get some experience by getting good intern-ships and that will be good. Although some Top level companies have minimum qualification criteria, which requires B.Tech or MCA
